Picture this: You're cruising out of Virginia Beach as the sun's coming up, coffee in hand, anticipation building. Our 3/4 day trip gives you the best of both worlds - plenty of time to tangle with some serious fish, but you'll still be back in time for dinner plans. We're all about sight fishing here, which means you'll be actively spotting and casting to fish. It's a rush when you see that big cobia or redfish and get to make the perfect cast. Our crew's always on hand to help you dial in your technique, whether you're a first-timer or looking to up your game.
Sight fishing is the name of the game on this trip. We'll be running and gunning, keeping our eyes peeled for those telltale signs of fish. When we spot 'em, it's all hands on deck. We use light tackle setups - think 20-30 lb test - to give you a fair fight with these bruisers. Bucktails, live eels, and big plastic swimbaits are our go-to lures. The key is a precise cast and a tempting retrieve. Don't worry if you're new to this style - our crew will walk you through every step, from spotting to setting the hook. And trust me, when that cobia takes off on its first run, you'll be hooked for life.
"Absolutely killer day on the water! Captain put us right on the fish and we landed some monster cobia. Can't wait to get back out there!" - Mike S.
"First time sight fishing and wow, what a rush! The crew was awesome, super helpful, and made sure we all had a great time. Already planning my next trip!" - Sarah T.
"Been fishing all over and this was one of the best trips I've had. The captain really knows his stuff and the fishing was non-stop action. Highly recommend!" - John D.
Cobia: These bruisers are the main event on our summer trips. They can top 100 pounds and put up a fight that'll leave your arms shaking. Cobia love to cruise near the surface, often hanging around buoys or following rays. When you spot one, get ready for an adrenaline rush. They hit hard and run like freight trains. The best time to target them is from late May through September when they migrate through our waters.
Redfish: Also known as red drum, these copper-colored beauties are a blast to catch. They range from "puppy drum" in the 5-10 pound class all the way up to bull reds topping 50 pounds. Redfish are known for their powerful runs and tendency to put up a stubborn fight right at the boat. We catch them year-round, but fall is prime time when big schools of bull reds move through. Sight fishing for tailing reds in shallow water is an experience you won't forget.
Look, I could go on all day about the fishing out here, but nothing beats experiencing it firsthand. Our 3/4 day trip is the perfect way to get a taste of Virginia Beach's world-class offshore action without eating up your whole day. We've got room for up to 4 anglers, so grab your buddies or bring the family. Just remember, these trips fill up fast, especially during peak season. So if you're ready to tangle with some trophy fish and make some killer memories, give us a call and let's get you on the books. Trust me, once you feel that first big run, you'll be planning your next trip before we even hit the dock.
Cobia are some of the most exciting fish we target here off Virginia Beach. These bruisers can reach 6 feet long and top 100 pounds, though most are in the 30-50 pound range. We usually find them near reefs, wrecks, and buoys in 30-70 feet of water during their spring and summer spawning runs. Sight fishing for cobia is a blast - we'll scan the surface for their distinctive shark-like dorsal fins. Once spotted, it's all about making the perfect cast with a bucktail jig or eel imitation. These fish put up an incredible fight, often making blistering runs and acrobatic jumps. Cobia are prized for their firm, white meat that's excellent for grilling or searing. Beyond the great eating, anglers love targeting them for the visual excitement and powerful battles. One local trick: if you see rays, keep your eyes peeled. Cobia often hang out near rays, using them for shelter and to snag an easy meal. Cast your bait just ahead of the ray and hold on tight!
Redfish, or red drum, are a blast to catch here in Virginia Beach. These powerful fish average 28-33 inches but can grow much bigger offshore. Look for them in shallow water, often just 1-4 feet deep, hanging around oyster reefs, seagrass, and jetties. They love mud bottoms too. Fall's the prime time to target reds, especially as water temps cool. They put up a great fight and taste delicious - light and sweet. Sight fishing for them is a real thrill. You'll spot that distinctive black tail spot as they cruise the flats. Reds will hit all kinds of lures, from tiny flies to big topwaters. My go-to trick is working a skitter walk lure with a walk-the-dog retrieve in skinny water. Those explosive surface strikes never get old. Just remember, they're a protected gamefish now, so we practice catch-and-release to keep the population healthy. Trust me, the memories are better than any filet.
