Let's talk about the stars of the show - the fish you'll be chasing on this trip. First up, we've got the mighty cobia. These bruisers can grow up to 6 feet long and put up a fight that'll have your arms burning. They're like the bulldogs of the sea - stubborn, powerful, and not afraid to throw their weight around. Summer is prime time for cobia in Virginia Beach, when they come inshore to feed. When you hook one, hold on tight!
Then there's the Spanish mackerel - the speed demons of the Chesapeake. These sleek, silvery fish are built for speed, and boy, do they use it. They'll hit your lure like a freight train and peel line off your reel faster than you can blink. We typically see them from late spring through early fall, with the peak season being July and August. They might not be the biggest fish in the sea, but pound for pound, they're some of the most exciting to catch.
But that's not all - depending on the season and conditions, we might also run into some other local favorites. Striped bass, bluefish, and even the occasional red drum could make an appearance. Each species brings its own challenge and excitement to the table, making every trip a unique adventure.
There's something special about fishing the waters off Virginia Beach. Maybe it's the thrill of sight fishing for cobia, watching these prehistoric-looking fish cruise by the boat before making your cast. Or perhaps it's the adrenaline rush of a Spanish mackerel hitting your lure at full speed. But I'll tell you what really sets us apart - it's the personal touch we bring to every trip.
Captain Ryan isn't just another guide - he's a local expert who lives and breathes these waters. He knows where the fish are biting, what they're biting on, and how to put you in the best position for success. But more than that, he's passionate about sharing his knowledge. Whether you're looking to improve your casting technique or learn how to read the water like a pro, you'll come away from this trip with skills that'll serve you well on future fishing adventures.
This season's been on fire, folks. We've been seeing some monster cobia in the 50-60 pound range, putting up fights that'll test even the most seasoned anglers. The Spanish mackerel have been schooling up like crazy, giving us some non-stop action that'll have your arms sore (in the best way possible). And let's not forget about the surprise catches - we had one lucky angler land a 40-inch red drum last week that had the whole boat cheering.
But here's the thing about fishing - every day is different. That's what keeps us coming back for more. The thrill of not knowing what you'll catch next, the anticipation as your line goes tight... it's what makes this more than just a hobby. It's a passion.
Look, I could go on all day about why this trip is the bee's knees, but at some point, you've just got to experience it for yourself. Whether you're a die-hard angler looking to add some new species to your list, or a family wanting to create some unforgettable memories, our 1/2 day Virginia Beach fishing charter has got you covered.
Remember, we provide all the gear and licenses - all you need to bring is your sense of adventure (and maybe some snacks). We're talking about four hours of non-stop action in one of the East Coast's premier fishing destinations. And with a maximum of four guests per trip, you're guaranteed plenty of personal attention and time on the rod.
So what are you waiting for? The fish are biting, and Captain Ryan's ready to show you the best that Virginia Beach has to offer. Give us a call at 757-652-8889 to book your spot or ask any questions. Trust me, this is one fishing trip you don't want to miss. Let's make some waves and catch some fish!

Cobia are one of the most exciting fish we target here in Virginia Beach. These bruisers can grow up to 6 feet long and over 100 pounds, though most we catch are in the 30-50 pound range. They're often mistaken for sharks with their dark brown coloring and single dorsal fin. We usually find cobia hanging around buoys, wrecks, and other structures in 30-70 feet of water. During their spring migration and spawning season from June to August, we'll sight fish for them near the surface. These guys put up a heck of a fight and are prized for their delicious, firm white meat. Cobia are typically solitary, which makes landing one even more rewarding. My go-to lure is a 4-8 oz bucktail jig, but they'll hit just about anything that imitates their favorite prey - crabs, squid, and small fish. Here's a local tip: if you see rays, keep your eyes peeled. Cobia often follow them around looking for an easy meal.
Spanish mackerel are sleek, fast swimmers that'll give you a real thrill on light tackle. These silver beauties with yellow spots typically run 1-2 feet long and 8-11 pounds. You'll find 'em in schools near the surface, often around structure in open water. They love warm water, so late spring through fall is prime time. We usually troll or drift for them offshore, but you can also catch 'em from piers and beaches. They hit hard and make blistering runs - hang on tight! Besides the fun fight, Spanish macks are tasty eating too. Grilled, smoked, or fried, they're a local favorite. To up your odds, try using shiny spoons or live bait like sardines or mullet. A little trick: if you see birds diving, there's a good chance Spanish mackerel are feeding below. Motor over quietly and get ready for some fast action. Just remember to bring a cooler - you'll want to get these on ice quick to keep that meat fresh.
